Race and Politics: Asian Americans, Latinos, and Whites in a Los Angeles Suburb (Asian American Experience)
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Txt) (September, 1998)
Authors: Leland T. Saito and Roger Daniels
Average review score:

Diversity in Suburbia
I read Saito's book for a course he taught at UCSD in San Diego. I felt that from his book I was given not only a unique and fascinating sociological examination of the interworkings of perhaps the first Asian suburban neighborhood in America, but I was also enlightened to a relatively new notion of 'whiteness' and its effects on the American scene. This book may be read by high school students or academic scholars, the topics of which address some of the most controversial issues in contemporary society.

Intense, worthy read
I came upon the book in an unusual way. I was having dinner with a group of educators and happened to meet the author. Over dinner he talked about some of the issues he came across in his research and I decided to pick up a copy a few days later. I read the book and it surprised me. It was interesting to me because I'm from Hawaii, and the experiences of Asian Americans there, I think, are different, and the text let me experience a major community outside my own. And while I don't see myself as politically driven, I found myself caught up in the alliances/divisions he sees forming in the San Gabriel Valley. As the text examines the theoretical aspects of the politicking in that community, it also presents detailed accounts of actual events that took place during the various stages of grassroots organizing. The depth of the cross-referencing is impressive, but what strikes me most are the insightful, sometimes very personal observations offered to the researcher by participants as events formed --observations that exist almost as sub-themes to the research. He sifts through then traces back lines of political theory through to actual events as residents began to change their community. A worthy read. It has caused me to look at my own community and makes me want to understand more about the forces and processes of change.

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Holiday Cookbook

Laugh at ALL THE HOLIDAYS YEAR ROUND
This was my favorite birthday present. Not only did I laugh till I almost wet myself, but the food is wonderful. And the good thing about the book is that regardless of how the title makes it sound, this is not just a Christmas book, but rather a book that covers all the holidays. Even if you don't cook, you will still fall in love with Ruby Ann and all her friends at the High Chaparral Trailer Park. She really has a way of making you forget your troubles. I went out and bought her first book so now I am ready both at the same time, and I'm falling in love with all the people in her books. Where shes comes up with these stories, I'll never know. I hope that she continues to write, because with all the talk of war and such, this is what we need to escape the world we live in. Keep up the great work Ruby Ann Boxcar!

down home humor at it's best!
I have never laughed myself into a hunger stupor like I did with this book. I fell in love with it and ordered two for my friends as gifts also. It will wash away the blues of the holidays and bring a huge smile to your face, not to mention a few pounds to the waist! Ruby Ann is great- the book is as much a delight to read as are the recipes. Good home cooking and wonderful titles of each recipe to spice up your office potlucks. This one should be in everyone's kitchen library.

Rv Park & Campground Directory, 1991: Eastern U.S., Eastern Canada (Allstate Motor Club)

My 1989 edition is still the easiest to review !
This is the most information anyone could ever get in one glance. If anyone has found a guide as easy to read as this one, let me know.

Easy to read and use campground directory
It is now 1999 and my husband and I STILL use this dog-eared Allstate Campground Directory because of its thoroughness and ease of use. Instead of paragraph write ups on each campground, which is laborious to read while driving, this guide simply lists campgrounds and uses a checklist of accomodations. Directions are excellent. We're afraid to throw it away.

Seal Island Scam (Girls R.U.L.E , No 3)

the girls find themselfs dealing with animals in danger
It was one of her best. I couldn't put the book down it was so intresting. It gives you a real sence of the girls persanalities. It is like you get suked into it. You should defenetaly read it. i did it for a book reaport and it was the only book reaport i injoyed doing, i got an A+ on it.

Amazing-better than the other two
This book was my favorite out of all three. It was scarier, and since the characters were alrady known well, it went by faster. You can tell who is the suspect, but I had a hard time figuring out what they were doing. I was also more concerned in this book. I am an animal lover, so this book really intrigued me, with the mystery of the seals.

Shark in the Park

Can't get enough
My 2 1/2 year old daughter first checked this book out at the library. We have since purchased it because she cried every time we had to return it. The illustrations are awesome & she can practically repeat the book word for word at this point. "We" read it several times a day. A cute & funny book.

ACK! There's a shark in the park!!!!
The little boy in this book is looking through his telescope in the park and is sure he keeps seeing a shark. The lense is an actual hole in the pages of the book, and as each page is turned the fin of the shark turns out to be something quite ordinary (ie. a cat, a crow, even the dad's Elvis-style haircut). This brightly illustrated book contains clever rhymes and pleasent repetition so kids can begin to chant along with the reader, and a surprise at the end leaves them giggling every time.

Sneakers ABCs : A Guidebook to Minneapolis Park Activities
Published in Paperback by Sneakers & Company LLC (01 October, 2000)
Authors: Sally Jones and Jones Fergestad Roseen
Average review score:

Kids & Parks
What a wonderful book to help your kids rediscover their local park. The main characters, Sneakers and Sally, will spark their interest. The cute alphabet format and clever rhymes will keep them entertained from A to Z. It's even a neat book for adults, who will remember the happy days of their youth in their neighborhood parks - and want to go back.

Sneakers , ABC's...A Must Read
This is a great ABC book for all ages!!!! I have found this book a great activities motivator for my second graders. In this day and age of couch potatoes, this book encourages kids to get active. I bought this book at the Walker Art Center during a recent visit back to Minneapolis . It brought back many memories of the fun times I had growing up at Lynnhurst Park. As a teacher in Sarasota, Florida the ABC rhyming format held the interest of my students and encouraged participation in the reading.
